Meeting with Blandine Guerrin.
Vergisson, a small, pretty village, is found between the Vergisson (pictured above) and Solutré rocks that are emblematic of the Mâconnais, found in the south of the region. Sylvie and Gilles Guerrin started their domaine here in 1984 and now have 13 hectares of vines in Mâcon-Vergisson, Saint-Véran, Mâcon-Charnay and Pouilly-Fuissé. Since July 2017, one of their daughters, Blandine, has been working in the family business. We visited with her.
As well as making the wine with her father, Blandine also works on the commercial side, as well as going into the vineyard. Her grandparents were selling grapes to the cooperative before her parents established the domaine. Of the 13 hectares of vines they farm, 4 hectares are owned, and the other 9 are en fermage (rented on a long-term agreement).
They have four cuvées from Pouilly-Fuissé, including two premier crus.

Gilles Guerrin Mâcon-Vergisson 2023
Tank only. Lovely energy here with sweet pear and peach fruit, with nice bright acidity. Very fresh with good texture to the beautifully weighted peach and citrus notes. Finishes bright and alive. 93/100
Gilles Guerrin Mâcon-Vergisson 2022
This is ripe, rounded and generous with lovely citrus and peach fuit, showing good mid-palate volume and roundness, but finishing with some freshness and fine spicy notes. Lovely density of fruit, and good definition on the finish. 93/100
Gilles Guerrin Mâcon-Charnay-Les-Mâcon 2022
Sandy loam soils (limon sable). They have just one plot here, and this is made in tank. Very refined. It’s ripe with some sweet pear and white peach on the nose with a touch of melony richness. The palate is nicely textured with sweet pear and peach fruit, showing some brightness on the finish, but this is all about the sweet, bright fruit. 92/100
Gilles Guerrin Mâcon-Charnay-Les-Mâcon 2023
Quite full in colour. Rich, exotic aromatics with some pear and peach and even a hint of apricot. Lovely freshness and intensity in the mouth with lovely pear and peach fruit, a touch of pineapple, with some lemony acidity. This is all about exotic fruit with nice intensity. 93/100
Gilles Guerrin Mâcon-Vergisson La Roche 2022
The old vines are separated out, and fermented and matured in barrel for this wine, with no new wood. Full yellow colour. Intense with nice pear and peach fruit with some savoury, woody hints adding a counterpoint to the rich fruit. Nice depth and intensity: at the moment this is powerful and primary with rich, ripe fruit and some spicy, mineral notes. Such intensity. 93/100
Gilles Guerrin Pouilly-Fuissé 2022
Young vines. This has lovely volume and intensity with a sweet, salty core of pear and citrus fruit, finishing with bright, tapering lemony fruit. Has nice intensity with some lovely brightness on the finish. 92/100
Gilles Guerrin Pouilly-Fuissé Vielles Vignes 2020
80-90 year old vines. This spends 9 months to a year in barrel. Nice intensity of sweet pear and peach fruit with concentrated flavours and some notes of spice and fine toast. Real focus and intensity to this wine. 94/100
Since 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé has some Premier Crus, and they have two climats that are included.
Gilles Guerrin Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru Sur La Roche 2022
In tank. Lovely intensity here with some chalky, spicy minerality under the broad, rich pear and peach fruit, with lovely purity and depth. Lots of fruit here with amazing depth and precision, showing a spicy, mineral finish. Some herb and mint notes on the finish. 95/100
Gilles Guerrin Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru En France 2022
This is barrel fermented, 20% new. Bold, rich and intense with ripe peach and melon fruit as well as a twist of orange peel and some lemony brightness. Nice depth here with some honeyed richness and a long, spicy finish. Supple and fine. 94/100
